In France as in other European countries, research in the field of didactics about writing and reading practices at university becomes more and more important. There is now a need for these studies to have dialogues with those developed in the US field of Composition Studies and the UK Academic Literacies.
One of the aims of this conference is to meet these three fields of research around the issues currently under debate:

  • the relationships between university writing and knowledge construction
  • the continued learning of writing at university (new genres of discourse, new practices, distance between students written culture and writing practices at university characteristics of scientific writing),
  • the relationships between writing and academic disciplines
  • the epistemological dimensions of academic disciplines

The didactic orientation will be equally central in this conference; this presupposes a theoretical construction of teaching and learning, as specific to a discipline (in this case a university discipline), as opposed to simply presentations about teaching methods or procedures

The conference will be the occasion for an overview of current research, in Europe and United States, about writing at the university.
